GLOF alert issued for Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released a GLOF alert for the Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral region, advising the residents and authorities to stay vigilant and prepared to tackle any untoward incident in the wake of increase in temperature and expected rainfall.

“Due to expected rainfall during the next 2-3 days, melt-rate will enhance which may cause GLOF events in Chitral and sub-basin areas of G-B, such as Gilgit, Hunza, Nagar, Ghizer, Shigar, Shingo, Shyok etc.”, the alert issued says.
