Miscreants torch houses in Thore Valley of Diamer
Chilas: (Bureau Report) Unidentified miscreants have torched several houses in the Thore Valley of District Diamer. The miscreants reportedly also asked the residents of the area to leave and threatened them with dire consequences if they didn’t comply with the orders.
According to details shared by Chilas based journalists, some miscreants taking advantage of the darkness of the night attacked Maniar village of Thore Valley and torched up to ‘two dozen houses’. They also hurled abuses at the residents and threatened them to leave the area or face consequences.
No loss of life was reported, as most of the houses were empty when the attack took place, said other sources.
On hearing the news people from Thore Valley started protest demonstrations and sent a delegation of fifty elders to Chilas, the district headquarter, to register their complaint with the local administration. The administration has started investigations and evidences are being gathered to ascertain the nature of attack and the perpetrators.
The residents of Thore suspect that the attack was carried by people from Harban, a neighboring area falling in the limits of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. Residents of the two areas have had bloody clashes in the past over an eight kilometer long piece of disputed land claimed by both.
Peace efforts in the past have failed to settle the dispute. The government had set up a one-man commission to propose a solution, but the situation has not improved over the last couple of years. There’s fear in the region that the situation may escalate after Sunday’s attack.
