Gilgit: The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan has set 10th September as the polling date for the by-election in LA – 6, Hunza. The decision came after two days of sit-ins and protest demonstrations held in Hunza by various political parties and candidates, who have accused the PMLN led government in the region of using delaying tactics to buy time ‘because their candidate is in a weak position’. The PMLN vehemently denies these assertions.
The Election Commission has said that the candidates were demanding that the polling be held before Eid-al-Adha.
Various political parties have blamed the Election Commission of being lax and closing its eyes towards the attempts by PMLN central leaders, like Marvi Memon, to buy votes in the region using BISP, which she heads.
