Ski championship promotes country’s positive image, Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan

Gilgit: The 2017 Ski championship concluded at Naltar on Tuesday. The final competition of Chief of Air Staff Ski Championship was witnessed by Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan, Ski Federation Secretary Air Commodore Syed Qaswar Abbas Naqv and other dignitaries.

Addressing the event, Chief Minister said efforts to be made in order to promote winter tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan. He said the government is preparing a master plan in order to retain Naltar as a model tourist spot. The government has banned all types of unplanned construction. The federal government has already approved 3 billion for the construction of Gilgit to Naltar road and construction work will be started within months, he added. He appreciated the efforts of Pakistan Air Force for installing chairlift and organizing international events in Naltar.

He said Naltar serves as a tourist spot and power corridor for Gilgit. Naltar will be soon declared as load-shedding free zone. He directed the forest department to stop deforestation and grow more forest in Naltar. He announced to provide 5 ski boats to PAF. He said Ski Championship is helping in projecting the positive image of our country internationally.

Fatima Sajjad won 2 gold medals in u-13 slalom and giant slalom categories for girls. Soma Afzal and Amina secured 2 silver and as many bronze medals. Khuseem Sahiba, Adeeba Alam and Rokiyya won gold, silver and bronze in girls slalom, whereas Khuseem, Sahiba, Rokiya and Adeeba won gold, silver and bronze medals in giant slalom girls u-16 categories.

Fazal Wadoood, Nazeeer Shah and Raeees won gold, silver and bronze in boys u-16 slalom category. Salmon won gold, Fazal Wadoood silver and Raeees bronze in slalom category. In u-13 giant slalom category, Shahid Javed, Ali Abbas and Naveed won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively, while in u-13 slalom category, Shahid Javed, Ali Zubaur and Ishtiaq won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
