A farewell ceremony was hosted in honor of the Principal of the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Gilgit, Sir Shams ul Haq. Other than  550 existing students of the school, a number of the former students, school management, faculty members and support staff also participated in the event.

After starting the ceremony with the Tilawat e Kalam -e- Pak the students and teachers paid homage to the out going Principal. The teachers and students recalled and appreciated services of the Principal, who joined this prestigious institution as an Urdu lecturer in 1999.

During his long and illustrious career, not only did he focus on academics, but also on extracurricular activities to enhance the students’ capabilities through drama, speech, debates, interviews, and poetry.

He served as the Patron of the Urdu Society which led to developing the standards of Urdu language, as he organized speech competitions, drama competitions, and poetry recitation sessions.

Sir Shams also served as head of the school attendance committee and examination committee. He was known for strictly implementing ‘merit first’ policy, which encouraged meritorious students.

In 2013 sir Shams Ul Haq was appointed as the vice principal of the school and assumed his responsibilities when the school was going through difficult times, because the former principal had resigned while final examinations were closing in. A number of teachers had also left the school after joining government services. He steered the school smoothly through this time, and continued the legacy of success and excellence.

The farewell event ended with recitation of a Ghazal dedicated to Sir Shams.
