GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan Government has released Rs31.685 million as a one-time grant to the main and Diamer campuses of Karakoram International University (KIU).
In a statement, the Vice Chancellor of KIU Prof. Dr. Attaullah shah has expressed his gratitude to the GB Government for releasing Rs30 million to KIU Main Campus and Rs1.685 million to Diamer Campus.
He has appreciated the role of Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan Hafiz Hafeez ur Rehman in overcoming financial crisis in the varsity.
Dr. Attaullah Shah has said that KIU has already reversed increase in tuition fee of about 4,000 BS students in the KIU. Increase in fees were made to compensate the Rs45 million revenue gap due to cut in HEC grant and revenue generated through Karakoram Board, the statements reads. added.
VC has said that KIU has already implemented stringent austerity measures to reduce expenditures. KIU has also taken up the case for the restoration of Prime Minister Reimbursement Program for 1,000 Master and MS students and special recurrent grant of Rs 100m with the President of Pakistan and Chancellor KIU, the statement further reads.
The admission body at KIU main campus and sub campuses will touch 6,000 this year and to provide them with quality education and research, financial sustainability is inevitable.
