Highlights of Walk Participants’ activities in Gilgit

Gilgit, June 05: Participants of the longest walk in the history of Gilgit – Baltistan’s scouting receieved a very warm welcome in Gilgit city. Following are the highlights of the different events of their last day in Gilgit.

The scouts marched towards the Chinar Bagh and paid tribute to the Martyrs of Gilgit – Baltistan’s war of independence. Malik Miskeen, speaker of the Northern Areas Legislative Assembly (NALA) addressed the scouts and praised their courage and passion for promoting peace, love and betterment of the environemtn. Also present at the occasion were officials of Pakistan Boys Scouts Association, including B. J. Shams, the provincial scouts commissioner

Later the scouts walked toward the historic “Ghari Bagh” and started cleaning up the bazar area

They cleaned the bazar area, moving towards Zulfiqarabad, through the Airport road

A warm welcome awaited the scouts at Zulfiqarabad where leaders and members of the Ismaili community, members of the Boys Scouts and Girl Guides had made impressive arrangements to make the scouts feel at home

Later the scouts returned to Shah Karim Hostel

At Shah Karim Hostel a grand closing ceremony was held which was attended and addressed by Zafar Iqbal (MD- NATCO), Abdul Haq, Director Colleges, Bulbul Jan Shams, Provincial Secretary of Pakistan Boys Scouts Association, Professor Manzoor, Sarfaraz Shah, Sir Baz Khan, Ishtiaq Yad, Ahmad Jami Sakhi and Riaz Ahmad advocate, among others

The speakers congratulated the scouts for holding the walk and completing it successfuly. They asked the scouts to abstain from indulging in social evils and promote the truly Islamic way of life and living

The walk was officialy closed and certificates were distributed among the scouts

Later, in the evening, the scouts returned to Zulfiqarabad, where the local scouts had arranged a stupendous cultural show in honor of their comrads

The scouts from different villages of Gojal including Shimshal, Moorkhoon, Shishkat, Hussaini, Ghulkin and Gulmit (I might be missing names of some villages) praised the arrangements of made by the Jamat and thanked them for their generosity and cooperation

Interestingly this caravan of the scouts had become more inclusive because tens of scouts from villages falling on the route of the walk had also joined in, increasing the number of walkers. These included scouts from Murtazaabad, Ahmadabad, Hassanabad and other villages of Hunza
