Man shot dead in Gilgit on new-year eve

Gilgit, December 31: Terrorists gunned down another man as the sun set on 2011 in Gilgit city.

According to details, a man identified as Yaqub son of Qurban, a resident of Nagar Valley, was shot dead by unknown people in the Khomar (Damot) locality of Gilgit city. He was rushed to the DHQ Hospital where he succumbed to the fatal injuries.

There are reports that he may have been killed on the account of personal enmity but the situation was not clear till posting of this report.

The year 2011 saw a marked increase in the number of target killings in Gilgit city. Deterioration of the law and order situation has made life difficult for the residents of Gilgit majority of who live in perpetual fear of the unknown.
