Government takes back its decision to form Military courts in Gilgit-Baltistan, JUI-F Chief
Islamabad, Jan 31: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman has informed the media that the federal government has taken back the move of setting up military courts in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Moulana, on Friday, chaired an in-camera meeting of the National Assembly’s Special Committee on Kashmir and received briefings from Adviser to Prime Ministers’ Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Birjees Tahir.
The government, on Jan 13, had decided to extend the scope of military courts to Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir during a meeting to review the status of the implementation of the anti-terrorism National Action Plan. It was also decided to take the approval of the Gilgit Baltistan and AJK councils on the 21st Amendment for the formation of military courts.
The former president of Supreme Court Bar Association and renowned rights activist Asma Jehangir had opposed the formation of military courts in Gilgit-Baltistan as there was no provision in Gilgit Baltistan Empowerment and Self Governance Order to directly implement the decisions of National Assembly .
Our Heros of Gilgit-Baltistan have had pledged with their sympathies to Government of Pakistan without any conditionality in the year 1948. The continues denial from the responsible leaders of Pakistan tantamount disservice wishes of our Heros. I urge upon the leaders to stop passing of such remarks in media.
