Vanessa O’Brien becomes the first American woman to summit K2

Islamabad: A 12 member team, comprising six Sherpas, scaled K2, locally known as Choghori, the second highest peak in the world.

Announcing the successful summit Nazir Sabir, himself an acclaimed mountaineer, posted the following on social media:

Vanessa O’Brien, 52 years old, made it to the summit of K2 on her third attempt.

Also present in the team of climbers are seven Sherpas from Nepal.
