Karachi beats Hunza in Volley Ball, RIPMA defeats Chitral in Soccer

Islamabad, November 20: The Jinnah Stadium at Islamabad Sports Complex resounded with music, sounds of clapping and

shouting, as the teams of RIPMA and Chitral competed in a match of football on final day of the JOSH National Sports Tournament 2011, organized by Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board for Pakistan. RIPMA (the short name for a cluster of Rawalpindi, Islamabad,

Peshawar, Mardan and Abbottabad) won the match after a tough battle.

In other events Karachi defeated Hunza in men’s volleyball, while Hunza defeated Gilgit in traditional volleyball (aka shooting). RIPA also won the final of female soccer.

In individual competitions, Karachi won most of the medals, followed by RIPMA.

Chairman CDA, Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, was chief guest on the final day. He appreciated AKYSB for conducting the Games in Islamabad. He said that diversity exhibited by the athletes was a microcosm of the Pakistan of the future, “the real Pakistan”. Elahi promised all out support to AKYSB for any future event in the federal capital.

Speaking at the occasion, Chairperson of Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board for Pakistan, Shams Jeewa, thanked the athletes

for travelling from far and wide to the federal capital to make the event a success. She also thanked the ‘more than 400 volunteers’ who took part in preparations of the JOSH Games.

Young artists of the Ellusion musical band performed the promo song of JOSH games. Cultural dance was also performed by a groups of young children.

A highlight of the event was the synchronized efforts of the athletes and the youth to form the logo of JOSH games at the centre of the ground.

Most of the winners will get an opportunity to participate in the Gold Jubilee Games, commissioned by His Highness the Aga Khan, to be held in Malaysia, next year.
