New management wins first round: Sost Port Trust

By Farman Ali, published in Dawn

ISLAMABAD, May 5: The government has ordered to maintain status quo in the affairs of the Sost Dry Port Trust. It, however, allowed the new management of the Trust to continue to run the port affairs till court decision expected on May 16.

This was decided at meeting held here on Monday at the Kashmir and Northern Areas Affairs Ministry under the chairmanship of the KANA Division Secretary Salman Siddiq.

This is being described as a victory for the new management of the Sost Dry Port Trust and the people of Hunza-Gojal.

The officials of Northern Areas administration, including chief secretary and deputy commissioner gave presentation about the issue, sources privy to the meeting told Dawn.

The former management team — Saleem Khan, Barkat Ali and Shabaz Khan — staged a walk out when they found themselves in a tight position and could not answer to the points raised at the meeting, the sources said.

They made unconvincing attempts to counter the arguments and reports of the local administration and the port’s new management.

  4. Congrats to the new management of SDP for the first round win. I think there is more challenge for them ahead and I pray for their success. My request to the new management is not to politicised the port issue because it is totally a business matter. Involvement of political leaders in this issue may create problem for the management and to the community. All efforts should be made to reconcile the issues with the other party.

Thanks to Zulfi, Noor and their team for updating us on every issues at every moment.

  5. May I ask the team of Pamir Times to make some clarification regarding the delegates and Venue of the above reported meeting as both the reports, one reported by Farman Ali for daily Dawn and other by PT has discrepancy in the name of delegates and the venue of meeting.

Farman Ali reported for daily Dawn, said the delegation comprised of the newly-elected Board of Trustees like Nazir Sabir, Wazir Baig, Ghulam Mohammad, Hur Shah, Advocate Ehsan Ali, Darvesh Ali, Shafa Ali, Mirza Hassan, Aziz Jan, Gul Sher.

While the Pamir Time reported that delegation was comprised of Nazir Sabir, Wazir Baig, Aziz Jan, Azam Tajik, Aziz Ahmed, and Nishat.

Is that delegation was authorized and mandated by the new management of SDP as none of the committee members was included in the delegation Like Chairman Afsar Shah and VC Muhammad Raza,. The formation of Board of trustees is also a new development, which I haven’t heard before. (Correct me if I am wrong)

Is the things are going in right direction or every one is just riding the bandwagon, as one can see some of the ‘persona non Greta’s’ were part of the delegation

  6. Farman has reported the name of delegation present during meeting with Secretary KANA division while PT has reported the names of people present in meeting with Kaira after the Walk out of former cabinet members.

  7. My dear country man it look so new to every one ,but this is a repeat version of the act which was done before.

At first the way Mirza Hussain and his fellows had worked day and night and established the SDP but as part of the culture and norms invited the so called Muhathram Mir shaab to be the part of it with the permission of the local population of the area. One reason was fear which is always present in our blood and will always be there ….. so the Mohthram sahib did his act as part of his one culture and teaching. Ghazanfar controlled the ports affair and seclected all puppet Directors of the SDP. When he thought that he cannot controll it completly he invited rest of his family, including his son Saleem, to come and help him out. So they played a game and had a play with Shahbaz to have conflict with him on the issue of SDP.

Result the only educted man in the board Mirza Hassain was thrown out of the port.

I hope that after this incident people had a lesson and will not let it to be repeated but still can see many repeated faces. God what will happen to this nation.
