Scouts to Walk for Six Days, from Gulmit to Gilgit, Celebrating 100 years of Scouting

The Ismaili Boy Scouts Group, Gulmit, is going to organize a 6 days walk from Gulmit to Gilgit along the historical silk route pony track. The event is organized as part of the 100 years celebration of World Scouting with the objective to use youth as an effective force for peace and development in the region and create awareness about the preservation and promotion of historical heritages and inform past time traveling hardship to the young generation.
The walk will also be used to raise awareness about environmental issues, AIDS and other development issues in the region. 70 Boy Scouts are participating in this trek and will start from May 31 to June 5, 2008 with this year’s theme CO2, Kick the Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy.”
 
Trek Plan
Day 1.   Gulmit to Ahmedabad (about 37 Km)
Day 2.   Ahmedabad to Murtazaabad (about 30 Km)
Day 3.   Murtazaabad to Hussainabad (about 30 Km)
Day 4.   Hussainabad to Chalt (about 25 Km)
Day 5.   Chalt to Nomal (about 28 Km)
Day 6.   Nomal to Gilgit (20 Km)
 
The closing ceremony will be held at Zulfiqarabad, Gilgit, on World Environment Day . A large number of Scouts and community leaders with the office bearers of Northern Areas Boy Scouts Association will be invited in the gathering.

  2. i must congrate ismaili scout unit gulmit for orgnizaing such a unique event to give awarenwss to other,s thiis is the best way to make relation,s with other scout unit,s and orgnize them toughter…i hope the jurney will be full of joyes and happyness and more informatic and the scout unit will make a documentry for that and get back to home safe and sound…

    i’d say show your strength, and invite all other scouts from Ghulkin Hussaini shishkat and from Passu too.

It is really good having such activities for the youth of Gojal but still I am not clear that whether only Gulmit Scout Unit is going to participate or the affiliated Scout Unit of Gulmit are also participating. It will be a great prospect to represent a community which is backward in terms of area but advance in education. As member of Ismaili Boys Scout we have to play an ambassadorial role with in the community and out side the community because we are representing an institution and Mawllana Hazir Imam has called the institutions “Ambassadorial Agencies” Which means we are representing the Ismaili Community. Thus, our ever action will be associated with the action of our community’s action.
