Goodbye Mr.VC

The goodbye hug
The goodbye hug

Gilgit, April 1: A farewell party was organized in honor of Mr Aziz Ali Najam, the outgoing vice chancellor of Karakuram International University, Gilgit. The party was attended by his colleagues, notables of the city and media persons.

Efforts of Mr Najam for making KIU a regional center of learning in Central and South Asian context were lauded by the speakers.

Mr Aziz Ali Najam faced a lot of resistence from sections of the region for various reasons, including promotion of arts and music at the premises of the region’s only university. Certain quarters also continously accused his administration of corruption in recruitment of teachers and other staff members.

Mr Aziz used his taste for literature, as depicted by an Urdu  couplet on front page of the university’s official website, for triggering literary scholarship at the university. He also made efforts for establishing ‘Astana-e-Iqbal-o-Rumi” at the university.

Before joining KIU Dr Najam worked at the Aga Khan University, Karachi. He has written a book titled “Heritage reviewed, traditions revived”.
