PT Report

Sost, October 1: Chinese government is sending first batch of the relief goods for the people of Gojal valley as part of its efforts to support the government of Pakistan for taking care of the disaster hit people who have been facing difficulties due to destruction of road links.

40 vehicles carrying up to 1800 tonnes of relief items, food and non-food, are expected to reach Khunzhrav (misspelled as Khunjerab) by October 10.

According to a letter obtained by Pamir Times a 12 member delegation will accompany the relief goods. The delegation will be headed by Deputy Commander of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, a semi-military, state-owned, corporation functioning in the Xinjiang region since 1954.

Other members of the delegation will include He Ruoqun, Director General of Xingiang Beixin Construction & Engineering Company (Ltd.) along with other officials and a team of media professionals.

Talking to Pamir Times about the relief goods, ex member of District Council Gilgit, Raja Shehbaz Khan, said that more relief items will be sent for the people of Gojal in the second and third phase.

Shehbaz Khan, who had also taken part in the election for GB Legislative Assembly, said that this year again the government of China  is sending petroleum products for the disaster hit people, in view of the severe cold weather in the region.

He said every effort will be made to ensure transparent and fair distribution of the relief items. He again blamed the GB government and Hunza – Nagar administration of massive corruption last year during distribution of relief items.

It is pertinent to note that GB Chief Minister had visited China recently along with President Zardari in which several agreements were signed for improvement of trade and defence relationships.
