PT Report

Skardu, October 1: Sixty million rupees would be distributed among deserving women in Gilgit – Baltistan region, as part of the Waseela-e-Haq programme. The financial help will enable the women to become self-reliant.

This was stated by Deputy Director BISP Baltistan region, Haji Mohammad Hasan, in an interview with Pamir Times. He said that 200 women in Baltistan would get 3 lac rupees each under this program. He further said that fifty million rupees have already been distributed among Mustaquin of Baltistan, as part of the Benazir Income Support Program.

Questions have been raised by public circles and newspapers about the methodologies used for identification of the beneficiaries under this program. The PPP leaders have been accused of using the BISP money for rewarding party members. On several occasions the money has also been, reportedly, used to increase PPP’s membership base in the region.

Government officials deny the allegations and maintain that all the beneficiaries are selected on a set criteria and there is no corruption whatsoever at BISP.
