Successful dialogue, KKH to be opened today

PT Report

Gilgit, January 11: Negotiations between the government and a committee of the protesters of Diamer has been successful. The protesters have agreed to open the Karakuram Highway after four days of blockade.

The blockade had led to shortage of edible items and petroleum products in the Gilgit – Baltistan region.

The KKH blockade had started on Sunday in reaction to the murder of Abdul Wakil, belonging to the Sonewal Tribe (Gold gatherers), in Gilgit. Wakil was allegedly shot dead by Waseem Abbas, a resident of Nagaral, when he was in Gilgit city for treatment of his seven year old son.

The protesters had presented a 12-points charter of demands to the government.
