Skardu: The provincial Minister for Water & Power Deedar Ali, during a media talk in Skardu, revealed that 50% of the consumers were using illegal electricity connections in Gilgit-Baltistan. He said that 90% of the electricity requirements could be met by stopping this ongoing power theft.

The government will expedite the campaign for recovery from defaulters and disconnect illegal connections, he added. The Minister said that notices will be issued to all the illegal users to warn strict legal action before launching the crackdown.

The federal government should invest in mega power projects in GB to end the ongoing energy crisis in GB and rest of the country, he added. He said the availability of cheaper electricity will encourage and promote investment in GB.
