Gilgit, October 6: The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz group has won both seats in in the by-elections held today. One of the seats had fallen vacant due to the death of a legislator while the other was vacated by former Law Minister, Wazir Shakil, who became a judge. The ruling PPP government did not field any candidate against PMLN’s Haji Fida Muhammad Nashad, a move that led to rifts in the party.

According to unofficial results shared by PMLN sources, Haji Fida Muhammad Nashad and Haji Sultan Ali of PMLN have won their seat from Skardu and Ghanche district of Gilgit-Baltistan. Nashad has reportedly obtained 8,391 votes while Haji Sultan Ali has obtained around 4,500 votes, according to party sources.

This victory will take the number of PMLN members in GBLA to three. Previously, Haji Janbaz was the only PMLN leader elected to the assembly.

The victory is being seen as an impact of the change in government in the center, as well as a reflection of the poor performance of PPP during the last three years.
