Gilgit, December 13: Enough is enough. The doctors of Gilgit-Baltsitan have decided to go on a strike to get their rights.

The announcement was made today at a press conference, in which officials of the Medical Association of Gilgit-Baltistan said that the doctors and paramedical staff across the region will go on a strike, starting December 16. From 16 to 26 December the doctors and paramedical staff will wear black ribbons on their arms as a sign of protest. “If our demands are not fulfilled by December 26, we will close the clinics and OPD services”, the Association’s President Dr. Abdul Rehbar said addressing a press conference.

The doctors have been demanding salary structure available for doctors in the federal capital. They are also complaining about shortage of doctors and medics in the hospitals, besides demanding allowances for the cold weather.

The doctors have warned to take the protest at a higher level if the demands are not fulfilled by 31st December, on the new-year eve.
