Seven days long “Cultural Revival Festival” underway in Hoper, Nagar

Gilgit, August 18: A seven-day long cultural festival is underway in Hoper, the picturesque tourist destination located in Nagar Valley. A number of stalls, depicting the traditional lifestyle of the Nagar valley, have been arranged by the local community.

The festival was inaugurated by the MLA Mirza Hussain and the Deputy Commissioner of Hunza-Nagar, a couple of days back. The festival is being attended by local and foreign tourists in large numbers, according to local sources.

Public circles informed this scribe that the festival is the biggest of its kind held in the valley since the 80s, arranged the local community without external help.

The locals have criticized the department of tourism and culture for ignoring the region. They said that millions of rupees are being released in the name of promoting sports and culture but nothing is being done on the ground.

The local people said that arranging such festivals is the basic responsibility of the relevant department. They termed the festival to be a welcome step for the region’s economy and culture.
