Huge rocks have fallen off a cliff in the Barakot Village of Hundur, Yasin Valley, in the Ghizar District of Gilgit-Baltisan region. The massive rocks have detached for the mountains and rolled down the settlement below, destroying trees, cattle shed, hay storage room and other property of the local farmers. No loss of life has been reported so far.
The locals have said that rockfall has been going on for the last five days. They have said that no government official has visited the region to assess the situation and advise the local population on safety measures. They have also demanded that the government officials assess the scale of destruction and compensate the farmers who are living off subsistence level farming. Photos: Wajid Ali
