PIA announces schedule for Gilgit-Skardu flights, court orders arrest of Shaheen Air official
Gilgit: The Supreme Appellate Court of Gilgit-Baltistan on Thursday issued non-bailable arrest warrant for an official of the Shaheen Airline for not appearing in the court despite of repeated orders. The court also warned that if the said official didn’t appear in the court on 25th of March (Tomorrow), then it can ask the Government of Pakistan to ban Shaheen Airline flights till further orders.
On the other hand, PIA officials present in the court told the bench that the national flag carrier plans to operate four additional flights between Skardu, Gilgit and Islamabad on Mondays and Thursday every week. The first flight on the new route will be operated on 28th of March, the court was told.
The Civil Aviation Authority informed the court that land will be provided for construction of fuel storage facilities in Skardu and Gilgit to facilitate the flights.
The hearing was chaired by Justice Dr. Rana Muhamamd Shamim, while Justice Shahbaz Khan and Justice Javed Iqbal were also part of the bench.
The GB Supreme Appellate Court had taken a Suo motu notice of the travel difficulties of the people of GB and directed the airlines to operate flights in the region. With PIA’s announcement today, the hopes of the people have risen. The tourist season is just starting and this could also be beneficial for the international and national tourists who intend to reach the region to enjoy the spring beauty.
