Chief Minister removes Sobia Muqaddam from Gilgit-Baltistan cabinet

BREAKING: Chief Minister Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman has removed Provincial Minister for Youth Affairs and Women Development, Sobia Muqaddam from his cabinet.

The reasons cited for the decision are ‘excessive absences’ from official meetings, ‘traveling abroad without permission’ and ‘lack of interest’ in government affairs.

News of the removal has been shared through the Chief Minister’s personal Facebook account. A notification of the removal has not been issued yet.

The Chief Minister has said that the female minister was provided opportunity to show cause for the absences and lack of interest. He has added that the ministry will be given to an ‘active’ member of the assembly to ensure that the work does not suffer.

Many see the removal as part of growing fissures in the regional government. Ten days back, Sobia Muqaddam, along with two minister, had criticized the regional government, calling it a one-man show. There were also rumors of some treasury bank members, including Muqaddam, hatching a conspiracy to remove Hafiz Hafeezur Rahman as Chief Minister.
