Gilgit, August 7: Security forces, including Police, Rangers, FC and GB Scout, are conducting a search operation in the Chilas city of Diamer district, under the supervision of Pakistan Army. At least fourteen people have been arrested during the last two days but no breakthrough has yet been made, according to media reports.
The fresh search operation was launched after three government officials – two army officer and a senior police official, were killed in an ambush after they were returning from a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. According to BBC, the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has accepted responsibility for the attack.
The officers were reportedly involved in investigation of the Nanga Parbat base camp massacre, where 10 people, including nine foreigners, had been killed towards the end of June, earlier this year.
Key government and administration officials, including GB Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah, have vowed to bring the culprits to justice and the forces have been ordered to nab the assailants.
Meanwhile, people in Chilas have condemned the attack and held a protest demonstration against the terrorist. Diamer Jirga has assured the government of its cooperation for the arrest of the culprits.
The number of violent incidents in and around Diamer district have increased exponentially during the last two years. Last year a mob had killed around a dozen Shia passengers close to Chilas city. Later, more buses were attacked and the male Shia passengers were target killed not very far from the limits of Diamer District, at Luluasr. This was followed by the gunning down of DSP Attaullah and his guards in one of Diamer’s valley. Later, ten people were shot dead near a base camp of the Nanga Parbat.
These incident have made life miserable for ordinary people of the valley who yearn for peace and return to normalcy. However, the government and the administration have failed completely to restore peace in the region.
no thing can happen, no thing can stop these terrorists as there is no motivation to stop them. An old saying in Punjabi ” Kuti choran nal rali ay” means, your watch dog has joined the theaf.
