The event was participated by advocates from seven countries in South Asia. The event was organised by UNICEF under the UN Girls Education Initiative (UNGEI) in order to train cadres of young volunteers to help promote girls’ education and gender equality back in their home countries.

The event was part of the Young Champions program, a concept adopted by UNGEI as a way of working with young people at the global, regional and country levels to help achieve the Millennium Development Goals around education and gender equality.

The main focus of the event was to develop the media and communication skills of the Young Champions, as well as sharing and learning from presentations on activities that are taking place in countries throughout the region. As a group their work included creating programs for community radio stations, writing newspaper articles, producing television documentaries, organizing school enrolment drives and leading campaigns to bringing dropouts back to school.

  1. Dear Zulfiqar,

Our congratulations to Naeema, Rubina and their parents for the participation in an important international workshop. It really is a tremendous achievement for them at this young age, and I do hope they have returned back with much needed and relevant skills, besides reprsenting our area well.

Each success story that the PT posts from time to time regarding the indiviusal accomplishments of our youth, does add up to collective achievement of the area, motivating other students and professionals to follow suit and getting motivated.

This really is a great service to the area as a whole, and to the youth in particular. Keep it up.

    Sincerely
