Workshop on disaster contigency planning organised in Gilgit

Gilgit, October 15: UNICEF Pakistan and LG & RD organised a two-day workshop on WASH International Agency Contingency Planning (IACP), Planning and Cluster mapping in Northern Areas. Haji Abdul Qodus Advisor, Health and Local Government was the Chief Guest of the opening session. Magistrates, LG & RD officials from all 6 districts of Northern Areas and representative of WASEP participated in the workshop.
The objective of IACP is to “Define response and preparedness activities of international humanitarian actors to a large-scale flood, which could affect several thousand of people in Punjab, Sindh, NWFP, Baluchistan, AJK and Northern Areas during the monsoon season of 2008”. The contingency planning is a tool used to analyze the impact of potential crises, ensures that adequate and appropriate arrangement are made in advance of a crises to respond timely, effective and in appropriate way to the needs of the affected populations.
