Chehlum of Imam Hussain observed across Gilgit – Baltistan

Gilgit, January 15: Mourners across Gilgit – Baltistan commemorated the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) with traditional religious zeal and fervour. The Chehlum proceedings were held in a peaceful environment in six out of the seven districts where Ithna Ashri (Twelver) Shias exist. Special Majalis were held at Mosques and Imam Bargahs to pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala.

At several places the faithful also performed self-flagellation, to revitalize and remember the pain and agony of Hazrat Mohammed’s (PBUH) family during the battle of Karballa, where majority of male were martyred mercilessly and the women and children were imprisoned in the earlier days of Islam.

Strict security measures had been taken to ensure safety of the mourners.
