Nawaz Sharif visits Gayari, Skardu and Shigar, urges demilitarization of Siachin

April 17: PMLN chief Mian Nawaz Sharif visited different parts of Baltistan today along with senior party leaders. He went to Gayari, where Jawans of Pakistan Army are busy in efforts to evacuate 135 soldiers buried under the debris of a massive avalanche. He appreciated role of the Jawans and spent around 25 minutes at Gayari, seeing the soldiers at work. He later returned to Skardu and met families of the victims.
He also went to Shigar to meet some families. He announced that PDMA Punjab will pay 5 lac rupees each to families of the 135 soldiers.
Speaking at the occasion he said that Pakistan and India should should withdraw their armies from the Siachin glacier. He said that a lot of money is being spent on the Siachin front, which could have been put to better use in both countries.
