Shandur Festival 2012 started

The Shandur Polo Festival started at the times of the British rulers. The festival has won international fame over the past many years

Chitral: The Annual Shandur Festival has started thousands of feet above the sea level. Thousands of people have reached the Shandur plateau to witness polo matches between teams from Gilgit – Baltistan and Chitral.

The Shandur Festival will continue for three days, ending mid-day on 9th of July.

Last year Gilgit – Baltistan had won the tournament, after being defeated by Chitral for five successive years.

Although known for polo matches, the Shandur Festival also presents spectacular cultural performances by artists and artisans from Gilgit – Baltistan and Chitral.

The event attracts huge numbers of domestic, national and international tourists, who live in tents for three days, enjoying polo by the day and music, dance, by the night.
