Moon sighted, today is first Ramazan in Pakistan

Islamabad: The official moon sighting committee has announced that there are sufficient evidences suggesting the beginning of the holy month of Ramazan. In view of the announcement, the Muslim citizens of Pakistan will start fasting today.
During the month of Ramazan the faithful avoid eating or drinking from dawn to dusk. The month has great philosophical, religious and theological significance for the Muslim community around the world.
The Holy Quran has directed the people to fast during the month, avoid bad deeds, not go to war and spend time in remembrance of the divine.
At the end of the month of Ramazan, the Muslims celebrate the Eid festival.
The Gilgit – Baltistan government had made elaborate security measures for maintenance of law and order and protection of the faithful. Contingents of police and other law enforcing agencies have been deputed in sensitive areas of different cities and districts to ensure safety and security of the public.
Working hours at public offices have been revised for ease of the officers. The offices will start at 9 in the morning and close by 1 O’clock, a notification issued here today said.
