Gilgit-Baltistan gets “affiliate” status in Athletic Federation of Pakistan

LAHORE – Athletic Federation of Pakistan (AFP) has granted affiliation to Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and FATA in a meeting held under the chairmanship of its president Maj Gen (retd) M Akram Sahi on Thursday.

The AFP spokesman said the affiliation case of veteran athletes and Pakistan Education Boards were pended to be routed through affiliation and monitoring committee to be constituted by AFP.  The house also approved the calendar of events for next year and appointed Zafar Ahmed as the Director of ‘Kid’s Athletics Programme’ being run in collaboration with IAAF.

“The house ratified action taken by AFP president on account of communication with Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) regarding implementation of National Sports Policy 2005.” The house further condemned the actions of President POA for interference in the autonomy of the AFP.  He said the house also elected Shahida Khanum a Veteran Athlete and Tasneem Siddiqui (MNA), President Islamabad Athletics Association as advisor to the AFP chief while Ahmed Nawaz Malik was appointed as protocol and security officer of the federation.
