Computerized voter lists for Gilgit-Baltistan to be prepared by September
Gilgit, July 18: Deputy Commissioners of all seven districts will oversee the preparation of computerized voter lists in Gilgit-Baltistan. The lists will be finalized by the end of September. The lists will be prepared by visiting each house in all seven districts.
These details were shared today at seminar held under the aegis of the Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan. CM, Speaker, MLAs, officials of the EC, NADRA and district administration officials were present in large numbers during the seminar.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the computerized electoral lists will help in conducting a free and fair election in the region.
PMLN leader Hafeezur Rehman, nationalist list Nawaz Naji and APML leader Karim Khan boycotted the event, calling it a PPP congregation. They said that the Election Commission is a neutral body and its neutrality should be maintained at all costs. Chief Minister Mehdi Shah and Hafeezur Rehman exchanged some hot words during the seminar, after which the later along with some others walked out of the event.
The date for holding the elections has become a bone of contention between the PPP and PMLN in the region. PPP, especially the CM, wants to delay the elections while PMLN leaders are calling for holding the elections as soon as possible.
