Residents of Chitral demand action against corrupt officials and contractors

Chitral, September 11: People in different parts of Chitral valley are protesting against corruption in various developmental projects. One such protest rally was held today from Chewo Bridge to Junali, led by Qazi Abdurauf .
Speakers said that Abdul Wali Khan bypass which was to be completed in 2011 is still incomplete and the people are facing a lot of difficulties. They said that the contractor of the project is allegedly a laboratory assistant based in Government Degree College upper Dir. They said that the said contractor is working in Chitral illegally under police protection. They also pointed out that the bridge on Molin Goul stream near Chitral Scouts Headquarter which is under construction and that substandard and defective material are being used.
They said that 340 million rupees were spent on Golan Water supply scheme but the work has proven to be very defective, as cheap pipes were allegedly used, depriving the people of water. They also alleged that the contractor has paid huge commission in this project to local PMA and Public Health Engineering high ups. They demanded of the National Accountability Bureau to recover the 340 million rupees from the Public Health Department’s corrupt officers and the contractor.
They said that Goulian Hydel Power station would be completed next year, demanding 30 MW electricity from the project for Chitral town, which is faced with a chronic energy shortage. They also demanded the up gradation of Saingor Power House.
A resolution was also passed on the occasion and was demanded from Chairman and Director General NAB to investigate and recover the 340 million rupees of Goulain Goal project. 30 MW electricity from Goulian Hydel Power House for Chitral and to complete Bypass road without any further delay.
