GBLA concerned about kidnapping, sexual abuse and murder of children

Giglit, November 12: The sexual abuse and murder of the 8 year old child in Gilgit earlier this week was condemned unanimously by members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly.

Presenting a resolution condemning the incident, Maulana Sarwar Shah said that the kidnapping, sexual abuse and barbaric murder of this child and other children in the past are very serious issues. He said that in the tense environment of Gilgit, such incidents can also create sectarian clashes. He demanded strict punishment for the perpetrators of the crime.

The resolution was unanimously approved by the assembly members.

An eight year child, who had reportedly been sexually abused in the past, was gruesomely murdered by three teenagers. He was stabbed and thrown off an almost 50meters high wall on the bank of the Gilgit River. His body was then hidden under boulders by the teenaged boys – Shoaib, Ibrar and Usama, hailing from the residential area of the murdered kid. The teenagers are under police custody, caught with the help of CCTV footage.

The incident has outraged thousands of people across the region who are demanding strict action against the culprits.
