Chitral: Unknown hunters have killed a rare Kashmiri Markhor in the Gahirat Conservancy area in Chitral District of Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa. Corpse of the Markhor has been obtained by Wildlife authorities and an investigation has been launched to identify the alleged hunters.

A Wildlife department official has told reporters that on hearing gunshots in the conservancy they encircled the area with the help of local watchers and community members. He has said that the hunters left the corpse of the rare animal behind and fled the scene.

It is pertinent to note that hunting the rare animal without obtaining a license is illegal.

“Licences for hunting are issued after due diligence, ascertaining the age and breeding condition of the old animals only”, said the wildlife department official. He said that those behind the hunt will be identified and punished in accordance with the law.
