Aided by AKRSP, 40 volunteers collect 4 tonnes of solid waste after Shandur festival

Chitral: Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP), under its “Water & Energy Security” project carried out a solid waste management activity in Shandoor, in collaboration with Tehsil administration and Chitral Heritage & Environmental protection society.

It was a four-day cleanliness drive, in which government officials and civil society members also participated.

Around 40 volunteers took part in the campaign and collected nearly 4 tons of solid waste. The solid wastes accumulated were properly disposed by digging pit holes and covering them by soil with the help of tractors.

Additional deputy commissioner Chitral Mr. Minhas Uddin and Assistant commissioner Mastuj Mr. Hayat Shah also joined the four-day campaign and appreciated the activity.

Additional Deputy commissioner Chitral Mr. Minhas urged the tourists and spectators to keep Shandoor clean and green. He also joined the awareness walk with the theme of clean eco system. Assistant Commissioner Mastuj Mr. Hayat Shah proposed installation of dustbins for the next Shandoor festival.

During a cultural night organized by Tourism Corporation of Pakistan, the AKRSP WES project staged a theater performance, to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean ecosystem. The drama was staged by theater artists from Institute of Pamiri Arts and Culture.

The theater performance was highly appreciated by the audience.
