PTDC Motel sealed to protect Sadpara Dam from pollution

Skardu: Acting on the orders of GB Chief Court, officials from the judiciary on Wednesday sealed a Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) run hotel in Skardu, to protect the Sadpara Dam from pollution.

According to details, officials of the District and Session Courts Skardu visited the hotel and sealed it, complying with the orders of the Chief Court.

The PTDC-managed hotel, which is located near the dam, was reportedly polluting the water reservoir by mixing garbage and liquid waste in it. Court had taken up the issue after complaints by the residents of Skardu.

It is pertinent to note that the Sadpara reservoir’s water is consumed by tens of thousands of people living in Skardu, the second largest city of the Gilgit-Baltistan region.

The locals of Skardu have, while appreciating sealing of the hotel, also urged the court to impose a ban on constructions near the dam.

The Motel was reopened for business last year, after ten years of closure, due to construction of the Sadpara Dam.
