NAB arrests 4 forest officials for causing Rs 225 million loss to exchequer

GILIGT: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) sub office Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday arrested 4 officials of forest department in 3 different investigations for causing over 225 million losses to the national exchequer.  The officials were accused of transporting illegally cut timber during the Timber Disposal Policy 2013 and cutting of forest during the ban periods and casing losses by non-collection of fine.

Accountability Court Gilgit handed over the accused persons to NAB custody for 14 days physical remand.

The arrested retired and in-service officials include Zamurad Khan, retired Conservator Gilgit; Saleem Khan, Divisional Forest Officer Astore; Qadar Dan, retired Range Forest Officer Thor and Fareed Ullah Superintended Forest Department Gilgit-Baltistan.

It is expected that there may be more arrests based on investigation.
