Chief Secretary visits GLOF-affected areas of Ishkoman
Ghizer: Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Babar Hayat Tarar on Saturday distributed relief items to the households affected by the glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) in Batswat area of Ishkoman.
He assured that people would be given compensation for the damaged houses and other properties. The link road would be soon reconstructed to connect the upstream villages with the rest of the word, he added.
Chief Secretary also assured the installation of SCOM mobile tower in Batswat area in order to facilitate telecommunication. Warehouse is being constructed to ensure wheat supply to Upper Kurumber valley, he mentioned.
He said direction has been given to all relevant departments in order to complete the public interest projects in a short period of time.
Mr. Tara directed the officials of the ETI-GB to improve road networks and link smallholder vegetable producers to markets.
It is here to mention that the residents of Badswat and other upstream villages in Ishkoman, hit by the July 17 glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF), were living in tents to face the worst winter.
The residents have demanded of the Gilgit-Baltistan government and other agencies to reconstruct their destroyed houses, school and link roads.
