Trophy: American national hunts Markhor in Chitral, pays USD 100,000

CHITRAL: Fred Rich, a hunter from Texas USA, successfully hunted a Markhor trophy in Chitral today.
The US national paid USD 100,000 to get the trophy, Imtiaz Hussain, Divisional Forest Officer of Chitral Wild Life Division, told Pamir Times. The size of the trophy was 49.5 inches, he added.
The Markhor was hunted in Toshi area of Al-Burkhan Village Conservation Committee, under the supervision of Shahzada Mir Hasanatuddin (Shahzada Gul).
Talking to this scribe Shahzada Gul said that 80% of total amount gained from the hunt will be given to the local community, while 20% will go to the government exchequer. He said that the amount will be used by conservation committee for development schemes in the area.
Such kind of news must not be promoted as a national treasure hunt game. Wild life is part of the mountain environment and selling them to hunters just for fun game is the low level of our attachment to the living creatures around us.
