ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday welcomed Prince Rahim Aga Khan V at Nur Khan Airbase during his official visit to Pakistan, marking his first trip to the country since assuming leadership of the Ismaili community following the passing of his father, Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, in February 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency, Prince Rahim was presented with a tri-services guard of honour at Aiwan-e-Sadr before holding meetings with President Zardari and senior government officials. A state banquet was also hosted in his honour and attended by top political and military leadership, diplomats and parliamentarians.
During the talks, President Zardari praised the longstanding contributions of the Aga Khan Development Network in Pakistan, particularly in the fields of healthcare, education, community development, climate resilience and heritage conservation. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with AKDN for the welfare of vulnerable communities.
The President also paid tribute to the late Prince Karim Aga Khan IV for his enduring association with Pakistan and acknowledged the Aga Khan family’s historic contributions to the country.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan V thanked the Pakistani leadership for the warm reception and reaffirmed AKDN’s continued commitment to supporting humanitarian and development initiatives across Pakistan.
Prince Rahim last visited Pakistan in 2024, when he was awarded the Nishan-e-Pakistan in recognition of the Aga Khan family’s services to the country.
