Skardu Jailbreak: Five officials get 17 years in prison

Gilgit, April 29: An Anti-Terrorism Court in Gilgit today found five officials guilty of staging the escape of a death-row inmate from the District Jail Skardu earlier this year.

The officials sentenced include DPO Ghulam Hussain, Head Warden Mohammad Khan, Warden In-charge Bashir Ahmad, Akhun Raza, and Johar Ali, under Act 222-223 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Five others were released by the Court in the same case.

The death-row prisoner had escaped from the Skardu jail on 10th January, 2013. He had been sentenced to death for murdering Judge Jamshed Khan and two other people in Gilgit, in 2005 and 2006, respectively.
