2.5 ft reduction in depth of the dammed Hunza River observed
PT Report
Gulmit, July 23: Depth of a lake formed on Hunza River has decreased due to lesser water inflow as temperatures went down in the upper valleys.
According to reliable sources at least 2. 5 ft (30 inches) reduction in depth of the lake has been observed during that last two days.
Water recession in the lake has exposed submerged land and upper parts of some buildings in Goze locality of Gulmit, according to sources.
The government is all set to start controlled blasting of the lake barrier, according to a decision taken yesterday.
People in Gojal Valley have hailed the decision, while also expressing displeasure over ‘delaying the process’.
