Senate seeks report regarding recent floods

Islamabad, August 06: The upper house of Parliament the senate sought  information from the Gilgit-Baltistan chief secretary about the damage and losses due to monsoon rains and floods and the funds required for relief activities and rehabilitation of the infrastructure.

The office of leader of the Upper House of the Parliament through a letter to the chief secretary  of, Gilgit-Baltistan and managing director of Pakistan Baitul Mal on Wednesday sought information on the flood situation and subsequent relief activities and requirements of the flood-affected areas.

The letter, issued following an adjournment motion regarding the relief activities for the flood-affected areas, directed the chief secretary of  Gilgit-Baltistan to provide the information as to how much area in the region had been affected by the recent monsoon rains and flash floods to the office of leader of the House, Nayyer Hussain Bokhari, . It also sought information about the casualties and compensation announced by the provincial government for the rain and flood-affectees.

The letter sought the details  about the  infrastructure damaged in the floods and what would be the estimated cost to restore them. The Senate has also sought information about the funds required to deal with the rehabilitation activities and the funds allocated and released for the purpose so far.
