Gulmit, May 02: It is time for fulfilment of all the promises made to the people affected by Attabad landslide and the resultant lake formation in Gojal Valley. More boats are being brought to provide better travel facilities to the people of Gojal Valley.
These views were expressed by Wazir Baig, Speaker Gilgit – Baltistan Legislative Assembly, while talking to affectees in Gulmit, Tehsil headquarter of Gojal Valley. He was accompanied by MLA Mutabiat Shah, President Ismaili Regional Council for Hunza Dr Khuwaja Khan, GB Finance Secretary, Gul Baig, Director of GBDMA, Abdul Qayyum and Assistant Commissioner Hunza, Momin Jan.
Talking to the affected people, Wazir Baig said that teams of NADRA and United Bank Limited (UBL) will verify documents of the affected people for granting of compensation for construction of houses. Each family will be family 600,000 rupees, under a special package announced months ago by premier Gillani. A total of 315 million rupees are to be distributed under this package, to help the affected people in reconstruction of houses destroyed by the Gojal Lake.
The local people raised several issues pertaining to absence of affectees’ names from the compensation award list. A local person said that the total number of households declared to be IDP are higher than the list provided for awarding of the compensation money. In Gulmit out of 104 affected households only 54 mentioned in the list, a man pointed out. Similarly, out of 187 affected households from Ayeenabad and Shishkat only 104 are part of the list, according to the local people.
Speaker Baig promised that all the affected families will be duly compensated. He said that the documentation issues will be resolved within 5 days.
