Riots erupt in Skardu after clash between two groups, excessive use of aerial firing and tear gas police

Skardu, August 18: Two groups clashed in Skardu city today, creating a very tense situation, as police resorted to aerial firing, while also using tear gas.

According to details a clash between two groups resulted in chaos and fear in Skardu today. Markets were closed and people stayed indoors because angry youth started aerial firing in the localities of Agha Hadi Chowk, Krism Thang Chowk and Hameed Gargh Chowk.

Heavy contingents of police and paramilitary forces were deployed in the restive city to control the situation. Police also fired aerial shots and used tear gas to disperse the feuding groups.

Rioters pelted official vehicles and buildings with stones after aerial firing by police, causing a lot of damage to the property.

Local religious leader played an important role in bringing an uneasy peace in the beautiful city.

GB Scouts have been put on high alert in Skardu after the riots.
