Ishkoman: Thousands protest against power outages
PT Report
Chatorkhand, December 10: Thousands of people took to the roads in Ishkoman Valley in protest against prolonged power failures in the region. All schools remained closed due to the general strike observed peacefully by residents of the valley.
The protesters raised slogans against Power and Water Department (PWD) for failing to ensure constant supply of electricity despite of several requests and reminders in the past.
It is pertinent to note that Ishkoman Valley is the region from where GB Governor, Syed Pir Karam Ali Shah, had been winning all elections during the past three decades. Recently he was defeated by the famebuoyant Nawaz Khan Naji, leader of his own faction of the Balawaristan National Front, a nationalist party demanding more autonomy for the region.
The protesters also closed down supply of water for a Hydral power station, throwing many parts of the district headquarters, Gahkuch, and adjacent areas into darkness.
The protesters threatened to continue the strike till resolution of their issues.
