Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy wins first Oscar award for Pakistan

Islamabad, February 27: Pakistani film maker and director, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, has won the the Academy Award for her documentary,
Saving Face, highlighting plight of the victims of acid burn.
It is for the first time in Oscar’s history that a Pakistani’s work was nominated for and won an Academy Award.
Directed by Daniel Junge and produced by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Saving Face is the story of a British plastic surgeon, Dr. Mohammad Jawad, who returns to his country of origin every year, dedicating his time bring back smiles on the faces of victims of acid burns.
The news has brought smiles and pride to a nation faced with political, social and economic challenges.
