Sost, May 31: National Highways Authority and Chinese Roads and Bridges Corporation (CRBC) have successfully negotiated with officials of the Importers and Exporters Association to conditionally open the Sost Dry Port for business today.
It has been agreed that the port will only be opened for clearing the materials imported for expansion of the Karakuram Highway. Around 4 dozen trucks carrying material to be used for the expansion project were stuck in Sost due to protest closure of business for almost two weeks.
The Importers and Exporters Association had started the protest strike to press the government for acceptance of several demands, including lifting of sales tax, handing over of the Attabad excavation project to the government of China, construction of road between Hussani and Gulmit, as well as waiving of loans of the businessmen suffering due to closure of the KKH since 2010.
